"A house of welcome and a place of service to all."

Mission Statement
Every living person has something to give and everyone is somebody important in God's plan.  Our goal is to help people feel the welcome of Christ in their lives.

Dear Friends in Christ,
We are all looking forward to having our Dream come true!  Yes, soon the Parish Community of Holy Spirit will have a home of our own.  A place where we can worship with grace, share Eucharist together and raise our children in the Catholic Tradition.
Bishop Placido Rodriguez, C.M.F. installed me as pastor on September 13, 1998.  Our membership has grown from 50 to over 300 in less than one year.  We are deeply grateful to the Knights of Columbus Council #3008 for extending their warm welcome to our parish community.  We could not have accomplished all that we have without their kindness.  We owe them much.
As Southwest Lubbock continues to grow, we know that Holy Spirit will continue to increase in the next 5 years, especially when we move into our own location at 98th Street and Frankford Avenue.
"The parish is not principally a structure, a territory, or a building, but rather the family of God, a fellowship, a fire with a unifying spirit, A familial and welcoming home, the community of the faithful."

Celebrate 2000 - Pope John Paul II.

For us to be part of a Catholic Community means that we are joined together in pursuit of a common Dream.  We are called to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth.  A building, where our Dream can flourish, it will take sacrifice on the part of each household.  We can do it and make it happen if we pray and work together.
I am asking each person to pray and sacrifice what you can best do to give back to God for the blessing received.  If it is 10% of earnings over the next five years or whatever you know that you can do as we prepare a "Home Parish", for a new millennium is about to dawn.
I promise on my part to walk the journey with you and do all I can to see that Holy Spirit Parish Community becomes a place in the world for the community of believers to gather together as a sign and instrument of the vocation of all to communion.   In a word, to "be a house of welcome and a place of service to all."   Would you be willing to help me make it possible?  Will you accept the challenge with me?

May God bless our Dreams and undertakings,
Fr. Gene Driscoll

Our Building Plans...
Phase I

  • Parish Center - The Parish Center will seat over 500 people and will provide a fitting place to celebrate the Eucharist with our living God.  It will also provide an opportunity for relationships to grow, as we meet one another.

  • Religious Education - This area consists of 7 classrooms for our young people and adults and also includes a nursery.

  • Institutional Kitchen - This space will serve nourishment and hospitality for each other and our community.

  • Administrative Offices - This section will consist of 2 offices, receptionist, and conference room.  There will be ample room to provide support for our parish.

Phase II

  • Church/Sanctuary - As our parish grows we will embark on the construction of the Church proper.  At that time, our first assembly area will become the Parish Hall.

Building Cost
The cost for Phase I is approximately $2.3 million.  The projected cost for Phase II is an additional $1.5 million.  Raising $2.3 million will allow us to build the entire Phase I.  The closer we come to raising the total cost of Phase I, the sooner our parish will be able to proceed with Phase II.

A Guide for Giving
You may make a contribution in any of the following forms:

  • Cost, which is tax deductible up to half of your gross income.

  • Stocks or bonds, which are also, tax deductible.  If you are considering this option, do not sell the securities then donate the proceeds; give the securities outright for a greater tax deduction.  You could save significant capital gains taxes.

  • For your convenience, the finance committee has agreed to set up a billing system for those who make a five-year pledge.  You can be billed on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annual basis.  See the payment schedule below.
